Do-it-yourself Photoshoot.

Photoshoot

A childhood growing up watching 'Blue Peter' inspired us to have a go at shooting our own photoshoot, so we hired out the local village hall and set about constructing a suitable backdrop. This required the skills of Rich, who 'lashed together' two huge filter rolls and secured them to an extension lead using gaffer tape!.

This was then pulled up into place under the full Health & Safety control of the ever vigilant GiZ. The results turned out ok and we had a laugh doing it at the same time. Click on the photographs to be taken to a slideshow of what we got up to.

So here you are checking out the new Bashphelt vibe, please be sure to let us know what you think before leaving the site.

Bashphelt photoshoot - Rich

We are now busy writing as much as possible and booking gigs. We have a few events lined up for the summer and plenty of news on the way so be sure to keep checking back and we'll keep you all posted.

Update on the Recording Session in London

Previous Bashphelt recordings have quite often been low key, DIY affairs where we have either recorded demos ourselves in the rehearsal room, or gone to a local studio and worked with an engineer. After much deliberation we decided in November 2007 to go for a more polished and produced recording. By this we wanted to go to a studio and actually work with producers who would not only record us, but would have input on how the final product would sound.

The Animal Farm

Fast forward to the 24th February 2008, after many months of song writing and practicing, we were on the train to our capital city to record for a week at the Animal farm studio full of excitement and apprehension.

After a few beers down our new local, The London Apprentice in Isleworth and a good nights sleep (not very rock and roll you may say) we headed for our first day in the studio. Upon our introduction with producers Mat and Ville (a real comedy duo may we add), our first job was to decide which four tracks to record. It was then down to the real business of recording and producing our ideas that had grown from our small rehearsal room in Foulridge.

We were keen to do our job as musicians and lay down the tracks, but we also wanted the producers have their input. We'd agreed that we were often a little over elaborate in our approach and we wanted a more focused and simplified direction for these recordings. More than anything, we were interested in getting the guys to help us get our hooks out in the songs.

It was a good test for us as songwriters, as we did write some of the parts on the spot and we liked working like that. We Also played everything live in the studio, really trying to capture the live energy that we are known for. We'll let you judge for yourself if we did that or not!

Overall we can say that we are very happy with the four tracks recorded (Thrusting Motion, Derailment. Murderers and Static Attic). The experience was not only great from a musical point of view, but it was a good bonding exercise for the four of us and made us realize that primarily we share a great friendship.

As for working with experienced producers it has been an eye opening experience for us and can only advise that it is good to get someone else's perspective on your songs, no matter how good you think they are.

Finally a big thank you must go out to Tina (Baz's cousin), who let us crash at her house for the week and put up with the constant farting and leaving the toilet seat up!
